F-Secure Anti-Virus for Mac is a Mac antivirus application that is designed to protect your computer from viruses, worms, spyware and more. This security software offers a variety of features to protect your Mac and help ensure that the data stored on your computer is safe and secure. But even though F-Secure does offer a few bells and whistles, this application lacks several features and has a few improvements to make before it becomes a top Mac antivirus software application.

F-Secure Anti-Virus for Mac detects viruses, worms, Trojan horses and other forms of malware. This application is designed to catch known and unknown threats that may be lurking on your computer. New threats are created every day, and this application constantly searches for suspicious files and eliminates them before they infect your entire system.

F-Secure also detects any spyware that may have been installed on your computer. This eliminates any extra set of eyes that may be watching the tasks you perform on your computer. Unfortunately, F-Secure does not detect rootkits and does not provide anti-phishing or anti-spam protection.

To ensure that you get the best protection, F-Secure Anti-Virus for Mac uses several types of security technology to prevent your Mac from becoming infected. F-Secure uses virus signatures to detect threats and malicious programs on your computer. This Mac antivirus software also uses real-time background scanning. This means the application is constantly working to find those files that may infect your computer. It runs silently in the background so you do not have to deal with annoying pop-ups and other controls.

F-Secure Anti-Virus for Mac features firewall protection, which is one of the standout features available on this application. When F-Secure Anti-Virus is installed, it will notify you if your firewall protection is turned off and will automatically turn on the firewall.

Unfortunately, F-Secure doesn’t offer some types of protection technology that you would find in similar products. For example, this application does not offer a quarantine section and does not use heuristics to detect possible threats.

This Mac antivirus software provides several tools for scanning your Mac. You can perform a full scan or create a custom scan. When selecting a custom scan you can scan individual files, folders, external media devices and archives. You can set exclusions on specific files that you do not want scanned. There is no quick scan option available, which we found as a drawback.

If any suspicious files are found on the computer, you will receive a notification. You can also view details regarding each scan and any threat found on the software. Unfortunately, you cannot schedule specific times to run scans, and there's no password protection or adjustable security levels available.

F-Secure’s website also provides a knowledgebase and a FAQs section so you can troubleshoot certain problems on your own. A user forum is available on the F-Secure website that allows you to receive additional assistance from F-Secure users. There is no user manual available on the website to guide you through many of the tools and features on the application.
